Following a ban on sports and other gatherings in March by the government in a bid to curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, sports federations/associations activity calendars have been at a halt since then.

However, with National Council of Sports (NCS) and related bodies currently working hard to ensure that sports activities are safely reinstated in line with the Ministry of Health (MoH) guidelines, banking on hope, some federations/associations have already come up with alternative activity calendars which they will use incase sport is reinstated in the near future.

For the case of Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF), the ‘volleyballers’ are plotting to serve-off in September (next month), hoping that by then games would have been given a green light to resume.

According to UVF through it’s President Hadija Namanda, in consultation with the special Committee that the special Congress selected to align UVF and FIVB (Federation of International Volleyball) calendars, the following was proposed for the resumption of volleyball activities in Uganda;
First is that, restart volleyball with the National Club Championship in September 2020. This will double as a qualifier for the CAVB (Confederation of African Volleyball) Men and Women’s Club Championship 2021.

Second is that, the National Leagues be scheduled between September 2020 to March 2021. League winners or respective runners up (incase one team wins both national championship and league) will join national winners to represent the nation at the CAVB Club Championship 2021.

Third is that, a one month season break be taken between December 15 2020 to January 15 2021.
Fourth is that player transfers be held between May 15 to June 15 2021.

One of the biggest issues in the proposed way forward is that, Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Elections be held on June 27 2021.

Among others, UVF is currently working on SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) to be followed once play is reinstated, plus constitution amendment.
