Ssemujju celebrates victory

Thirteen boxers; eight male and five female started residential training over the weekend ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics continental qualifiers next month in Senegal.

The team selected (winners) from the national trials that drew over 500 boxers entered the camp on Sunday at Luzira prisons where the Bombers also camped in preparation for All Africa Games in Morocco last year.

The  camp will run till next month, February 14. Uganda boxing federation (UBF) President Moses Muhangi said that they would want a better conducive environment but the finances could not allow and thus the better option at disposal was Luzira prisons.

UBF President Moses Muhangi

“We are grateful to the Uganda prisons services. They offer us their facility and provide the best environment to their capacity. Like Uganda Cranes, the Bombers are also a national team that needs to train from a class A environment. Cranes camp abroad and end up only participating but Bombers camp in such undesirable despite ever returning home with medals from international competitions,” noted Muhangi.

Four of the boxers that represented Uganda in the 2018 All Africa Games in Morocco are not be part of the team after falling in the trials.

These include; Joshua Tukamuhebwa, Champions Busingye, Nali Jalia and Hellen Beleke. These fell to Geoffrey Ochan, Adinan Yasin, Suzan Akello and Doreen Nassali respectively.
