Lukanga boxing club put up a dominant performance in the 2019 Uganda boxing federation (UBF) National Novice championship that climaxed on Friday at the Kira road play ground in Kamwokya, a Kampala suburb.
The week-long event attracted over 500 boxers from across the country and a mammoth crowd as supporters flocked the venue from day one to the last day.
The 20 referees that underwent AIBA referees and Judges course in Kampala during the same week officiated at the championship as part of their practical sessions.
Lukanga became the 2019 overall (Boys) champions after topping in all the categories with Kololo High coming the overall first runners up.
Lukanga topped the Juniors (Boys) with 23 points while Kololo High and A&B came second and third with 20 and 19 points respectively.
Lukanga also topped the youth category with 16 points, one point above joint second and third placed COBAP and Kadiba respectively that have 15 points.
In the elites, Lukanga topped with 21 points, 4 points above second placed Kololo High. In the Girls category, Boggie and COBAP boxing clubs leveled on points and had to go for a toss which Boggie won.
Meanwhile, the Boxing federation will this Monday name the final team for this month’s All Africa games in Rabat, Morocco. Uganda was given only 10 slots by Team Uganda organization committee –inclusive of two officials.
