Despite not having the best run in the national basketball league, Betway Power basketball club still have their heads up as far as promotion of basketball is concerned.
Betway Power with support from their shirt sponsors Betway-Uganda extended support towards Gulu wheelchair basketball club worth Shs5m.
The equipment included full playing kits, balls and tracksuits. According to Patrick Okot Obalim, the Betway Power club chairman, wheelchair basketball players are increasing in numbers yet they need support to grow their game.
Gulu wheelchair basketball club Project officer cum Coach Paul Acaye expressed gratitude towards Betway Power and Betway-Uganda as sponsors.
“We have over 20 players and now we shall be smarter in these new branded kits, we will look like a professional club. We urge other corporate companies to support to support people with disabilities especially those playing wheelchair basketball,” he said.
The 2007 founded club takes part in seasonal wheelchair basketball tournaments since there is no league yet in the country.
So far, four active wheelchair clubs are in the country in Gulu, Kampala, Mubende and Lira district that is semi-active. The Betway-sponsored are five-time national basketball league champions.
