Somalia vs Uganda -Djibouti

The Uganda Cranes team left for Djibouti on Thursday morning for their CHAN 2020 qualifiers, first leg tie against Somalia this Saturday at the Al Haji Hussein Guled Stadium  before the return leg in Kampala at the StarTimes stadium, Luogo a week later.

The Cranes were held to barren draw by Proline on Wednesday in the last friendly match at Lugogo, four days after losing to Kitara region select side 1-0 in Hoima.

In three friendly games, the Cranes have only beaten URA FC 1-0 in the earlier tie at Lugogo. After stalemate against the reigning Stanbic Uganda Cup champions, Cranes interim Coach Abdullah Mubiru named the final 18-man squad that flew out in a 31-man contingent led by FUFA Exco member David Mukidi Kalyebara.

The National team’s officer Paul Mutakabala had traveled in advance on Wednesday morning. Despite shortage of goals, Mubiru is motivated by the numerous goal scoring opportunities created by the team ahead of the Somalia duel.

“We managed the ball well and created some good chances only that we failed to convert them. We only lacked better creativity from the players who were supposed to do it but that is a concern we are going to rectify and hopefully by the time we play Somalia, we shall be ready,” Mubiru noted after the Wednesday morning friendly.

The Police FC Head Coach was named Cranes interim coach this month after the exit of French Sebastien Desabre after guiding the Cranes to a last 16 finish at the 2019 AFCON Egypt.
