FUFA and Cranes Coach Sebastien Desabre mutually agreed to terminate contract between two parties after the Cranes were stopped at the round of 16 in the ongoing AFCON 2019 in Egypt by Senegal on Friday after a 1-0 loss.

Liverpool forward Sadio Mane scored the only goal in the opening stanza. Uganda reached the last 16 for the first time in 41 years since losing at the final to Ghana in 1978 but their campaign was marred with bad publicity after players going on strike over unpaid bonuses and allowances just two days before Senegal clash.

After the exit, Desabre, who replaced Serbian Milutin Micho Sredojevic, congratulated the Cranes with a tweet referring to the players as Warriors who their country can be proud of the image they showed Uganda football.

According to Desabre, through a statement on his official Facebook page, the termination of contract was for the benefit and growth of both parties.

“The reasons for termination of the employment contract are for the benefit and growth of both parties. FUFA recognises the contribution by Mr. Desabre for the improvement of the sporting and professional organisation of the Uganda Cranes inclusive of qualification to the AFCON 2019 Finals and also to the Round of 16. Mr. Desabre is grateful to the people and the Government of Uganda, FUFA, Sponsors, Staff and the players that have provided him a good environment to fulfill his obligations in his first time role as a National Team Coach,” the statement read.

FUFA also confirmed the French tactician’s departure in a statement published on the federation’s website on Sunday.

“On the 6th of July 2019, both FUFA and National Team Head coach of the Uganda Cranes Mr. Desabre Sebastien Serge Louis mutually agreed to terminate the contract between the two parties. The reasons for termination of the employment contract are for the benefit and growth of both parties. FUFA recognises the contribution by Mr. Desabre for the improvement of the sporting and professional organisation of the Uganda Cranes inclusive of qualification to the AFCON 2019 Finals and also to the Round of 16. Mr. Desabre is grateful to the people and the Government of Uganda, FUFA, Sponsors, Staff and the players that have provided him a good environment to fulfill his obligations in his first time role as a National Team Coach. FUFA will communicate any further development about the Uganda Cranes technical staff and future programmes of the National senior team in the nearest future. It is our Game, It is Our Country,” the statement reads.

Desabre took over Cranes job in December 2017 from Ismaily FC (Egypt) for his first national team job after Moses Basena had worked as an interim coach. There were reports earlier that top Egyptian clubs had tabled a fat offer to Desabre and that FUFA was willing to let the Coach seek greener pastures if they would be compensated with at least $300000 (About Shs370m) for the remaining period on his three-year deal.
