Despite St. Mary’s SS, Kitende thumping Iganga Parents 5-0 on Thursday, school director Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa believes the Copa Coca-Cola tournament has grown in leaps and bounds.

The Honorary FUFA President was in attendance at the Mighty Arena on Thursday as Richard Basangwa grabbed a hat trick and Charles Lwanga fired Kitende past Iganga Parents, whose Muhammad Ikoba succumbed to Steven Serwadda’s pressure to put the ball in his own net.

“The tournament has improved over the years. We used to see big score lines like 13-0 but now days, even the big names work hard in the preliminary. That is good for the game. It shows that the schools are putting much effort to prepare their teams which is good for the tournament,” he told Pepper Sport.

Mulindwa was also not shy to express his optimism in Kitende going all the way to win the tournament. “Our objectives have never been short.

We always prepare the team to win the tournament. You can see the talent that is on show, we’re expecting to win it,” he boldly stated.

In other games, holders Buddo thrashed Aki-Bua 6-0 as Nakaseke International stepped up their bid with a convincing 7-0 over Ngora High school.

The biggest disappointment of the day on Thursday was Kibuli SSS 1-0 loss to Mulusa Academy and St Julian 1-0 loss to St Hnery’s College, Kitovu.

Kitende returned to action yesterday against Fort Portal SS and will play Ngora High today in their fourth group E game.
