Express and KCCA managers will demand their charges to build on the previous wins ahead of their respective tricky Premier League fixtures this Thursday. George Ssemwogerere’s Express host struggling Maroons at Betway Muteesa II stadium, Wankulukuku while Mike Mutebi’s KCCA will be at home despite ‘visiting’ Police with whom they share StarTimes stadium, Lugogo as home ground. The Red Eagles were 2-0 winners away at Nyamityobora in the last league game before ejecting Police FC on Penalties in the Stanbic Uganda Cup to storm this season’s quarter finals. KCCA meanwhile beat BUL 2-0 at home last time out. Mutebi returns to bench after serving a four-match ban. In his absence, the table leaders won and drew twice in the four games, scored thrice and conceded none. “The confidence is high, competition is also high because we have full squad at disposal now and everybody wants to play. We expect a beautiful offensive game and goals against Police but we believe that we are better. Our defense is solid of recent but we are not scoring enough,” noted Mutebi, during the pre-match media briefing on Wednesday. KCCA beat Police 6-3 in the first round encounter at the same venue while Express drew 1-1 with Maroons at Luzira. After the Nyamityobora victory, Ssemwogerere revealed that his team had gotten the winning touch and is hopeful for even better performance. “The players were not in proper fitness shape; both mentally and physically. We have tried to work on that but it will be a gradual process for the team to come back,” he noted. Exciting Frank Tumwesigye Zaga and experienced striker Brian Umony grabbed their first Red Eagles’ goals in Mbarara and will want to prove their prowess against an unpredictable Maroons side that is five points off relegation. KCCA lead the table with 44 points, 6 above second placed and champions Vipers SC after 19 games. Express meanwhile are 10th with 24 points, 6 above 13th placed Maroons. Action resumes on Friday with under fire Vipers SC hosting Bright Stars are fresh from ejecting 3-time winners URA FC from this season’s Stanbic Uganda Cup at the Round of 16.
