Despite conceding 16 times against 17 scored in the first round of the 2018/19 StarTimes Uganda Premier league, Express FC Head coach Kefa Kisala believes that boosting the offensive line was more vital ahead of the second round kick-off next week.
On Friday, the Red Eagles unveiled five players –with Sadiq Ssekyembe the only defender among the new recruits. The teenage left back was signed from Kampala regional league side Katwe United. Others unveiled included; skillful Frank ‘Zaga’ Tumwesigye (on loan from Vipers SC), Ivan Ocholit (Wembley), Goffin Geoffrey Oyirwoth (Buddo SSS) and tested striker Brian Umony (free agent). All the additions were given two-year renewable contracts. “Yes, we conceded many but if we can score more and get the goal advantage, we can win games. We have many defenders, who were on the sidelines in the first round but have since recovered and will be of value to us in the second round,” Kisala noted. He said that the new additions are teenagers and this ensures continuity. “We have an experienced Umony coming along with exciting teenagers which is a good blend,” added Kisala. Umony, who is making a return after a long injury lay-off is optimistic he will add up to the Betway-sponsored side. Goffin is an offensive midfielder just like Zaga while Sadiq and Umony are a defender and striker respectively. “I am returning from the injury but I am feeling better now. I may not be as colourful as someone who has been active but I am working hard to help my team,” noted the former KCCA FC striker, whom doctors advised to meanwhile avoid playing on artificial turf. Umony, Zaga, Sadiq, Ocholit, Goffin were given shirt 13, 27, 2, 7 and 26 respectively. Express finished first round 7th with 21 points after 15 games and beat FUFA Big league side Water FC to advance to this season’s Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 32. The Wankulukuku side opens the league second stanza with a visit to Tooro United this coming Tuesday.
