Uhuru

Uganda professional boxing commission (UPBC) President Salim Uhuru has strongly condemned acts by some of his Executive members for interfering into the leadership of amateur boxing. Last week, two UPBC members; Moreen Mulangira and Abby Mugayi were part of the plaintiffs that ran to High court (Civil division) seeking an injunction to stop the ongoing 2019 National boxing championships. Despite her Majesty, Lydia Mugambe trashing the application, Uhuru believes that his Executive should not indulge in other sports body’s administration. “I talked to them and they believe they have a genuine call but I do not support the idea of going to court or be part of the process. People may think we (UPBC) are not in terms with Uganda boxing federation (UBF) –which is not. It is true they have a right to seek justice but should first exhaust other channels before heading to court. I must say, the decisions to go to court are personal,” noted Uhuru, who was at MTN Arena, Lugogo on the opening day of the championship. Earlier, UBF President Moses Muhangi told Pepper Sport that he will engage Uhuru and his executive to see how they will work together to develop boxing at both amateur and professional level.
